Bobcats Media Day 2009

Some tidbits as the Bobcats open camp Tuesday morning:

  • The Cats signed Flip Murray to a one-year deal late last week.  The deal for the veteran combo guard is for the biannual exception, just under $2 million.  Flip goes 6’3″, 200 pounds, can handle the ball competently enough to fill in at point in a pinch, and is a career 10 ppg scorer.  Charlotte will be his seventh NBA team in eight years in the league.  So basically, he scores just well enough to hang around in the league, but doesn’t do anything else well enough to have ever earned a big, long-term contract.  I expect that Murray will get a fair amount of playing time, especially if/when Raja gets dinged up and if/when rookie Gerald Henderson struggles and finds himself in Coach Brown’s doghouse.
  • Stephen Graham and Antonio Anderson will be in camp with the Bobcats.
  • Monday was Media Day: here’s some coverage from Bobcats.com, some pictures from the Observer, a candid interview with Gerald Wallace, and the standard “talk to the new guy” interview with Tyson Chandler by Bonnell.
  • Hollinger is out with his team previews on ESPN.com.  His prediction for the Cats?  Not good: 29-53, worst in the league in offensive efficiency, and out of the playoffs at 12th overall in the East.  Link here (ESPN.com Insider Access needed).

Is Ajinca really throwing up the shocker? Two in the goo with one in the poo? Well, I guess that shouldn't be surprising coming from a Frenchman.

Jared – here at the Baseline, we were thinking maybe Algerian gang signs? But yes, it does appear to be the shocker…

Also, the more I see the new unis, the more disconcerted I become about the "now you see it, now you don't" piping around the collar. It's starting to bug me…

One of the things I really like about the Bobcats this year, is that judging from the pictures I think the guys “overall” are in pretty good shape. That’s a big plus, since this team will be better of by running the court, similar to Phoenix, with the advantage that at least we do know how to play some pretty good defense.

    Jared-

Glad you could finally join us for some tasteful humor.

    All-

I still think it's an Algerian gang sign and I'm even more worried after I found out Nazr Mohammed was behind the camera taking the photo. Somebody get Donald Rumsfeld on this ASAP!

And speaking of the African continent, I just realized that not only is Diop from Senegal but so is Diaw's father. Somebody check the Baseline Google stats, I'm sure we're the number one basketball blog in Dakar.

Anyone else think Diop looks like a black version of Shrek? I guess that makes Lex Donkey, which I can also see.
